Who We Are

Mission: We are guided by Catholic teachings to provide compassionate, inclusive, and connected care to the community we are entrusted to serve.

MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital was built around a culture that promotes quality, service, and safety to our patients to provide them with the best healthcare experience possible. The hospital was founded in 1968 as a Catholic, not-for-profit hospital through a gift from local merchant and philanthropist Thomas J. O'Neill. It continues today in Catholic tradition, guided by Gospel Values and promoting the healing ministry of Jesus.

MedStar Good Samaritan is known throughout the region for its state-of-the-art, 60,000 square-foot Inpatient Rehabilitation Center, which is accredited for its stroke and rehabilitation programs. In addition to being named a Primary Stroke Center, the hospital offers the latest cancer care, wound healing and hyperbaric medicine, geriatrics, and Collaborative Care Program for management of chronic illnesses. MedStar Good Samaritan offers patients specialty services in a community hospital setting.

What We Do

Want to make a difference in other people's lives in your community? Then come volunteer at MedStar Health's Good Samaritan Hospital!

We have great opportunities for adults, college and high school students.

**If you are in college, please email Jeannie.B.McLeod@MedStar.net for information about our Student Guest Ambassador Program.

**If you are in high school, we only accept applications for our Jr. Summer Volunteer Program starting in early March.

If you are an adult (NOT in college or post grad medical track), these are some of our opportunities:

  • Play or sing soothing music for our patients and visitors!
  • Pamper our patients by brushing or braiding their hair or polishing their nails
  • Make crafts or bring books/magazines/playing cards to patients to help them pass the time and stay positive!
  • Smile and say good morning to our health care associates at our entrance! Perfect for early risers!
  • Donate these items (in good shape) to keep our patients happy and engaged: crayons, colored pencils, magic markers, coloring books, puzzle books, magazines, novels, nail polish, emery boards, combs, readers, gifts of knitted blankets, scarves or mittens.

Hours are flexible, so check us out today!
