Who We Are
Mission: To work with low-income children and adults who are dyslexic or have a language–based learning disability.
Everything starts with reading. But what if you couldn’t read this sentence? Unfortunately, too many people in our communities know exactly how that feels. This is where Dyslexia Tutoring Program (DTP) comes in.
What We Do
Our mission is accomplished through a professional assessment, and if needed, tutoring by volunteer tutors. DTP provides one-on-one tutoring and other services FREE of CHARGE to low-income children and adults with dyslexia or language based learning differences in the greater Baltimore area. As a volunteer tutor with DTP, you receive with 30 hours of FREE Level I Orton-Gillingham training – a structured, evidence-based, multisensory literacy approach. DTP provides all materials needed for both the class and tutoring. In return we ask you to commit to tutoring a student at least one hour per week for a total of 60 hours – that’s 2 hours of tutoring for every hour of free training received. Once you complete the class, we match you with one of our students and you will meet in person either at our tutoring rooms in The Rotunda (we have 3!) or at another public location.
