Who We Are

Mission: To provide programs and places that celebrate and build community through innovative, sustainable and inclusive recreational opportunities, partners and facilities.

The Department of Recreation and Parks hosts, implements, provides and sponsors wide range of programs, activities and special events throughout Baltimore County.

Just as water, sewer and public safety are considered essential public services, recreation and parks is vital to establishing and maintaining the quality of life in a community, ensuring the health of families and youth and contributing to the economic and environmental well-being of a community and a region.

What We Do

The Department provides quality recreational and leisure opportunities to County residents and visitors via its parklands and open spaces, recreation and nature centers and other specialized facilities.

The Department’s 11 recreation activity centers (“RACs”) and countless community centers, nature centers, parks, playgrounds, recreational sites and waterfront sites offer high quality, diverse and accessible programs and services. Find the sites in your community by searching the parks directory and index of programs and activities.

Celebrating and building community through innovative, sustainable and inclusive recreation opportunities, partnerships and facilities, the Department enhances the quality of life for all ages, cultures and abilities throughout Baltimore County.
