Volunteer: B&O Rail Operations VolunteerCalling all history buffs, train enthusiasts, and engineers! We are eager to find like-minded individuals who share the same passion for history or civic involvement and want to commit to preserving the story of American Railroading and the B&O! Our Rail Operations team focuses on maintaining the first mile commercial railroad made in the United States, in addition to support our Train Rides for patrons. Training for all equipment, safety procedures, and rail work will be provided. Volunteers with experience in landscaping is a plus, but not required. Projects are all led by certified and trained professionals, providing a unique experience to support the American Railroading history with weekly hands-on assignments. Rail Operations Volunteers will: -assist with ongoing projects across the Museum campus, such as cleaning train cars, track work, or turn table demonstrations. -contribute to preserving our historic 1 mile of railroad track -gain engineering and rail operations experience -receive full training for other opportunities and licenses such as train conductor. Most volunteers commit to one shift per week. While we encourage and prefer a weekly commitment, the minimum requirement to volunteer for most roles is one 5-hour shift per month for a year.
