Needs From: Baltimore County Volunteers

Volunteer: Create Welcome Baskets for New Neighbors - Perfect for families or groups!

When families move into AHC's affordable housing communities, we like to give them Welcome Bags filled with essential household supplies to say "welcome home."

Volunteers will purchase all the items to fill the bags. A large, sturdy, reusable tote bag with a square or rectangle base is ideal. For purposes of hygiene and dignity, we ask that all items are new, unopened and unused. Please make sure items fit into the bags and limit your donations to the items listed below. We do not have the space or capacity to accept other items. Most volunteers find it useful and cost-effective to purchase items in bulk, as long as each final product has all the necessary items in it. Small 8 oz containers of all liquids are best, since the bags can get quite bulky. Thank you!

A complete bag includes:

Dish soap (1)Hand soap (1)Bleach (1)All purpose cleaner (1)Sponge (1)Plunger (1)Trash bags (1 box)Gloves (1 pair)Paper towels (1 roll)Toilet paper (2-4 rolls)Hand towel (1)Plastic shower curtains and hooks (1 set)Reusable tote bag (1)Reusable laundry bag (1) Dustpan & mini broom (optional)Welcome home card (optional)

We are collecting welcome baskets for properties in Baltimore City and Baltimore County.

Volunteer: Holiday Gift Bags for Seniors and Teens

Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) is collecting holiday gift bags for teens and senior citizens living at our affordable housing properties! We are also looking for people to make holiday cards for senior citizens.

You will purchase the items and decorate & assemble the bags at your own location and schedule. We will collect gifts the second week of December so we can give them out before the holidays. We have some flexibility so please ask before signing up so we can work out an alternative delivery option.

For this project, you will:

Purchase or collect items. Specific suggestions on the Sign-up Genius.

Decorate the gift bags and/or make cards for the bags. Our residents celebrate many winter holidays, so please use seasonal decorations and messages.

Assemble the gift bags with 3-5 items each. Please do not overfill the bags so we can be fair when distributing them.

Please feel free to email volunteer@ahcinc.org with questions.

AHC is a nonprofit affordable housing provider that believes Housing + Education = Success. Our Resident Services team supports youth and families by offering free programming right where they live. As we expand into Baltimore, we're building out our learning spaces with donated supplies for hands-on activities, creative expression, academic support, and social-emotional growth.

We’re currently collecting new or gently used items to stock our classrooms and "comfy corners"—places where kids can feel safe, supported, and inspired to learn.

High-Need Items Include:

Arts – Paint supplies, coloring books, sketch paper, glue sticks, stickers, and more (please, no glitter!)
STEM – Science kits, puzzles, robotic toys, and math games
Literacy – Books that reflect Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Accessibility, student dictionaries, pencils, rulers, etc.
Socio-emotional Learning/IEP/504 Supports – Fidget toys, stress balls, soft pillows, rugs, squishmallows
Physical Play – Soccer balls, jump ropes, frisbees, hula hoops

We're also seeking costumes for imaginative play and fun!
