Volunteer: Historic Person Re-enactorThe FamilySearch Center seeks volunteer re-enactors for a Carrie Murray Nature Center Friday Night Hike in Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park. Hikers begin by visiting the FamilySearch table to explore their roots and connect to generations past. They then take a self-guided twilight walk on the park’s historic trails, where re-enactors will bring to life the voices and stories of those laid to rest more than a century ago. Volunteer re-enactors may choose historic figures to portray from a list of people who lived in the area in the 19th century. We'll provide details of their stories. Re-enactors must come in simple costumes to create an 1800's atmosphere, and tell their historic person's story in first-person. They guide patrons in creating FamilySearch accounts, navigating the website, utilizing center resources, and accessing premium genealogy websites. They seek to facilitate meaningful family discovery experiences for patrons. Staff do not need to be experts in family history research. They should be: Able to communicate well with others. Comfortable using computers, printers, scanners, and phone apps. Reasonably familiar with FamilySearch.org and its mobile apps. Friendly, patient, and respectful at all times toward patrons and other staff. If you have a heart for helping others find their ancestors and family stories but aren't sure you're experienced enough, we are happy to provide training.
