This opportunity is for the Full Day Shift from 10:30 am – 5:30 pm We rely on your commitment to volunteer. Volunteers 14 and 15 years old must be accompanied by a chaperone for the duration of the shift. Volunteers 16 and older do not need a chaperone. DRESS CODE Sturdy closed-footed shoes are required (No crocs, high heels, or open-toed shoes). Wear comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting dirty. As a safety consideration, avoid loose-fitting or baggy clothes. No dangly jewelry or clothing items that could get caught or snagged on something. No clothing with offensive or inappropriate language, images, or symbols. ARRIVAL All volunteers MUST sign-in for their shifts on the iPad/computer kiosk and sign out before leaving. Please arrive on time and commit to working the entire shift. We rely on your commitment to volunteer. Volunteer: HOME TEAM PROGRAMThe Baltimore County Home Team Program offers weekly friendly in-home and telephone visits to eligible older adults who lack social supports and are at risk of social isolation. Volunteers and program participants engage in friendly conversation or a shared mutual activity such as a game, craft activity or reminiscence. Additionally, we offer the Food Agent program. This program helps older adults who are in need of supplemental food and who qualify for food pantry assistance. A volunteer picks up food from a partnering food pantry and delivers it to Home Team participants. The Home Team program provides ongoing training and recognition to volunteers. This program reflects a caring sense of community by providing reassurance and security to older persons wishing to remain in their own homes. The program’s main focus is to foster a greater sense of independence, enhance the quality of life, create new friendships, and reduce socialized loneliness. Volunteer: “Surgical Support” Volunteer PositionBaltimore Humane Society’s Spay-Neuter Center This volunteer position is not hands-on with animals but rather vital support to the Spay-Neuter Center’s daily needs in the areas of laundry, cage-cleaning, and surgical pack preparation. We need reliable and consistent volunteers that can commit to at least one shift Monday- Friday, for the 9am-12:30 shift or for the 12:30-4pm shift. Responsibilities include: · Surgical Laundry (mostly surgery drapes and towels) · Cleaning Cages- “spot” cleaning throughout day and “full” cage cleaning for end of day · Sweeping and Mopping the floors · Cleaning surgical instruments and sterilizing surgical packs · Preparing surgical scrub bins-Chlorhexidine Scrub (pink) and Chlorhexidine Solution (blue) · Wrapping surgical packs to prepare them for sterilization · Restocking supplies as necessary (paper towels, kitty litter, litter boxes, etc) · Preparing testing materials and flea prevention for use in the surgery dept The volunteers would be doing a number of these tasks each time they work a shift. Tasks may vary with each day and tasks may vary with the time of day that the volunteer is in the Spay-Neuter Center. Some of the tasks require that someone be able to squat and bend but in general, they do not require any heavy lifting or wrestling with animals. Volunteers must be able to stand for for the duration of the 3.5 hour shifts.
