Volunteer Guides (non-musicians) escort Volunteer Musicians room to room as they play music for patients, families and caregivers in healthcare environments. The Volunteer Guide acts as the "eyes and ears" during the MOC Bedside shift and is the liaison between the hospital, patient, and the Volunteer Musician. Volunteer Guides are critical to the success of MOC Bedside and get to experience the healing power of music firsthand without having to be a musician themselves!

Voices for Children Baltimore County is in need of volunteers to serve as advocates, mentors, and role models for children in the foster care system. We provide the training and a supervisor to guide you. We ask for a minimum of a one-year commitment and estimate volunteers give approximately 5-10 hours per month. We develop a healthy consistent relationship; ensure that the child is receiving needed services; speak up for the child in court; and work with the team of individuals from the Department of Social Services, therapists, school teachers and guidance counselors, foster parents, birth parents, doctors, attorney and others.

Baltimore County Department of Corrections is currently seeking an Islamic Religious Services Volunteer/Volunteer Imam. The Jumu’ah Authority is a volunteer Islamic religious leader (Imam or qualified designee) who conducts the weekly Jumu’ah service in a correctional setting. This role includes leading the prayer and brief sermon, providing basic religious guidance to both incarcerated men and women, and ensuring services are carried out in accordance with facility policies and security requirements. The volunteer must be recognized by an established Islamic organization, mosque, or faith community or organization as qualified to lead Jumu’ah prayer.  This role requires willingness to coordinator with the Facility Chaplain. All potential volunteers will be subject to a background screening, security screening, facility orientation, and PREA training.

Assist with the implementation of programs designed for youth and/or families. Our programs will be held directly in schools, community centers, and other locations around the Baltimore area.

FamilySearch Center staff provide one-on-one help to visitors, assisting them in discovering their family history. They guide patrons in creating FamilySearch accounts, navigating the website, utilizing center resources, and accessing premium genealogy websites. They seek to facilitate meaningful family discovery experiences for patrons. Staff do not need to be experts in family history research. They should be:

Able to communicate well with others.

Comfortable using computers, printers, scanners, and phone apps.

Reasonably familiar with FamilySearch.org and its mobile apps.

Friendly, patient, and respectful at all times toward patrons and other staff.

Do you have a soft spot in your heart for old buildings.  Taking care of our 100 years old church has to be a labor of love, because everything is a Pandora's box.  We always have a long list of "honey do's".  Right now, top of the list is to weatherize several window AC units, repair a few screens, repair and repaint some door frame trim, repair one toilet that leaks, another that takes forever and a day to flush...carefully pick apart a soft spot under the carpet to investigate its cause and possible remedies and repairs... repair steam damage to old plaster over brick wall, replace a ceiling light fixture...whatever your skill set, we need you!  This is also a great opportunity for a father-son or family activity or a group.  

We do not want to do fundraising on the backs of the people we are here to serve.  We need help attracting and involving the general public at our events.  This could be a s simple as making and posting flyers and yard signs or as technical as designing social media campaigns or finding grantors whose passions align with our mission and writing simple grants to fund operations, or expand capacity.     

The Chaplain administers, supervises, and facilitates programs that promote the spiritual welfare and religious guidance of inmates at the Baltimore County Department of Corrections. All operations are conducted in accordance with the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act of 2000 (RLUIPA), which ensures every incarcerated individual’s right to practice their faith.

Individual should be a lay or ordained minister with solid computer skills and flexibility in scheduling.

Baltimore County Department of Corrections is currently seeking a volunteer/s Haircare Instructor to provide basic and advanced haircare education to incarcerated women within the Baltimore County Department of Corrections. Volunteers will teach skills such as natural hair maintenance, braiding, hygiene, and product knowledge while supporting Baltimore County Department of Corrections standards. Maryland cosmetology licensure through the Maryland Board of Cosmetologists is preferred, and all volunteers will be subject to a background screening, security screening, facility orientation, and PREA training. Raising a skilled service dog requires the dedication and efforts of many people, working together to positively impact the life of a Veteran with disabilities. Puppy Sitters play an important role by providing a safe, nurturing environment for Service Dogs in Training (SDiT) temporarily in their homes. Sometimes, WCC SDiTs need a place to stay for a few days or a few weeks. They may be transitioning between raisers, or their Puppy Parents may need time off for a holiday or a family emergency. Puppy Sitters receive similar training as Puppy Parents so they can step in with confidence and help when needed. The training covers the proper care of a SDiT, WCC’s training methods, and basic commands. Puppy sitters will be given all appropriate supplies for the sit from the Puppy Parent.

The Ascension Saint Agnes Chaperone Program serves older adults and adults with disabilities by ensuring they have safe, reliable, and free transportation to and from their outpatient medical appointments. We provide support through Lyft rides, a shuttle service, and, when needed, an in-person volunteer chaperone to accompany patients during their appointments.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation's largest grassroots organization dedicated to improving the lives of people living with serious mental illness and their families.

NAMI Ending the Silence is a free presentation led by 2 presenters: one lead presenter shares an informative presentation about mental health and a young adult presenter shares their personal story of living with a mental health condition, followed by Q&A.

The presentation can be adapted for three audiences: students, school staff, and families, and has been shown to is effective in improving middle and high school students’ knowledge and attitudes toward mental health conditions and toward seeking help, both immediately after the presentation and after 4-6 weeks.

We are seeking volunteers to teach people who do not communicate verbally the basics of ASL in order to communicate their needs. The individuals needing instruction are hearing.

This opportunity is located at The Meaningful Day Program, 2520 Pot Spring Rd, Timonium MD 21093 anytime Monday-Friday from 10am-2pm.  

The Baltimore County Home Team Program offers weekly friendly in-home and telephone visits to eligible older adults who lack social supports and are at risk of social isolation. Volunteers and program participants engage in friendly conversation or a shared mutual activity such as a game, craft activity or reminiscence.

Additionally, we offer the Food Agent program. This program helps older adults who are in need of supplemental food and who qualify for food pantry assistance. A volunteer picks up food from a partnering food pantry and delivers it to Home Team participants.

The Home Team program provides ongoing training and recognition to volunteers. This program reflects a caring sense of community by providing reassurance and security to older persons wishing to remain in their own homes. The program’s main focus is to foster a greater sense of independence, enhance the quality of life, create new friendships, and reduce socialized loneliness.

Sort, size, and restock shelves in Clothing, Linens, Household, Baby or Yard Sale Department Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday 9:30 am to noon or 12:30 pm to 3 pm.

Requires a commitment of at least 2.5 hours per week.

Our Cosplayers, or "Causeplayers," are anyone wearing a superhero costume during SSI missions.

They must:

- Only wear and use SSI approved cosplay/accessories that they provide

- Maintain cosplay/character integrity by staying in character and keeping their identity secret

- Interact appropriately with your teammates and the children/families/nonprofits that we support

- Represent SSI positively in all interactions

- Follow safety protocols, including social distancing when required

- Adhere to SSI/HIPAA privacy and confidentiality standards

- Attend at least 4 events per year

Photographers for Superhero Support Inc. include anyone who snaps a photo to document our missions. Photographers must:
- Capture authentic moments at events
- Maintain equipment (phone or camera) readiness
- Adhere to SSI/HIPAA privacy and confidentiality standards
- Upload all photos to designated platforms within one week of the event
- Attend at least 4 events per year
- Be supportive of our costumed frontline volunteers
- Interact appropriately with your teammates and the children/families/nonprofits that we support
- Represent SSI positively in all interactions

Baltimore Humane Society’s Spay-Neuter Center

This volunteer position is not hands-on with animals but rather vital support to the Spay-Neuter Center’s daily needs in the areas of laundry, cage-cleaning, and surgical pack preparation. We need reliable and consistent volunteers that can commit to at least one shift Monday- Friday, for the 9am-12:30 shift or for the 12:30-4pm shift.

Responsibilities include:

·        Surgical Laundry (mostly surgery drapes and towels)

·        Cleaning Cages- “spot” cleaning  throughout day and “full” cage cleaning for end of day

·        Sweeping and Mopping the floors

·        Cleaning surgical instruments and sterilizing surgical packs

·        Preparing surgical scrub bins-Chlorhexidine Scrub (pink) and Chlorhexidine Solution (blue)

·        Wrapping surgical packs to prepare them for sterilization

·        Restocking supplies as necessary (paper towels, kitty litter, litter boxes, etc)

·        Preparing testing materials and flea prevention for use in the surgery dept

The volunteers would be doing a number of these tasks each time they work a shift.  Tasks may vary with each day and tasks may vary with the time of day that the volunteer is in the Spay-Neuter Center. 

Some of the tasks require that someone be able to squat and bend but in general, they do not require any heavy lifting or wrestling with animals.  Volunteers must be able to stand for for the duration of the 3.5 hour shifts.

The Goucher Prison Education Partnership (GPEP) offers individuals incarcerated in Maryland the opportunity to pursue an outstanding Goucher College education. GPEP offers Goucher College courses on-site at two prisons as well as all necessary resources for student success, including access to skilled academic tutors.

Disaster Mental Health Services Team Members are essential to the Red Cross and our ability to respond across the country to large scale disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and wildfires.  Events that impact entire communities.

This position requires that the volunteer hold a current, unencumbered professional license: LCSW, Psychiatric Nurses, Professional Counselors, School Counselor/Phycologist (Master's degree).

The purpose of the opportunity is to assist those impacted by disaster in their immediate needs regarding mental health care. Volunteers support the emotional health of individuals, families communities, and Red Cross workers through the use of disaster mental health interventions. 

Disaster Mental Health Services Team Members can also provide care for shelter clients locally or deployed to other regions during large scale disasters. A disaster mental health services deployment is for 10 days. 

Time Commitment:

During normal operations the time commitment is about 4 hours per month after initial training. For those who volunteer to support a large-scale disaster, the time commitment will increase and can be 8-10 hours per day, multiple days (10 days if they deploy to another region).

Purpose:  Save lives by installing smoke alarms and educating residents about home fire risk by providing home-safety checklists and creating home escape plans! The Red Cross responds to an average of more than 60,000 disasters, 90% are home fires. With partners, we are working to help reduce death and injuries from home fires in high-risk communities. In Our Own Voice Presenter for Youth & Young Adults

Role Description: NAMI Metro Baltimore's In Our Own Voice for Youth and Young Adults was created as
part of NAMI’s initiative to involve young individuals living with mental illness in our effort to educate
the general public about mental illness. The goal is to change the attitudes, preconceived notions and
stereotypes of what individuals living with mental illness look and act like. Presentations are given to
consumers, health care providers, law enforcement officials, faith communities, students, and any other
community organization that is interested in learning more about mental illness and recovery. The
presentation format includes viewing a NAMI video about mental illness, personal testimony from 2
IOOV volunteers, and time for questions from the audience. Presentations can be run in 40-, 60-, or 90-
minutes. Presenters receive a $30 stipend for their service.

Location: Presentations are held throughout Baltimore City and Baltimore County.

Role Requirements:
▪ Young adult ages 18-26 with mental illness who is living well in recovery.
▪ Complete supplemental application to be an In Our Own Voice presenter.
▪ Experience in public speaking is helpful but not required; however, volunteers must be comfortable
speaking in front of groups.
▪ Complete 8-hour online portal training and 1-day NAMI training course.
▪ Current member of NAMI, or willingness to join.
▪ Complete a NAMI Metropolitan Baltimore Stipend Volunteer Agreement. Volunteers are responsible
for notifying the Volunteer Coordinator of changes to their IRS Form W-9 information on an annual
basis.
▪ Volunteer Commitment: Volunteers are kindly asked to commit to providing 1 presentation per month
for 1 year.
▪ Minimum Age: 18 years old.

Volunteer Responsibilities:
▪ Work cooperatively with a co-presenter to conduct the presentation which includes speaking about the
topics of dark days, acceptance, treatment, coping skills, and successes, hopes, and dreams.
▪ Volunteers are responsible for gathering materials needed for the event from the NAMI Metropolitan
Baltimore office. Excess materials should be returned after the event.
▪ Volunteers are required to complete a Reporting Form and collect Evaluations from audience members.
These items must be returned to the Outreach Coordinator within 1-week of the presentation.
▪ Volunteers are contacted on an as-needed basis to present. Volunteers are responsible for ensuring the

Calling all history buffs, train enthusiasts, and engineers!  We are eager to find like-minded individuals who share the same passion for history or civic involvement and want to commit to preserving the story of American Railroading and the B&O!

Our Rail Operations team focuses on maintaining the first mile commercial railroad made in the United States, in addition to support our Train Rides for patrons. Training for all equipment, safety procedures, and rail work will be provided. Volunteers with experience in landscaping is a plus, but not required.  Projects are all led by certified and trained professionals, providing a unique experience to support the American Railroading history with weekly hands-on assignments.

Rail Operations Volunteers will:

-assist with ongoing projects across the Museum campus, such as cleaning train cars, track work, or turn table demonstrations.

-contribute to preserving our historic 1 mile of railroad track

-gain engineering and rail operations experience

-receive full training for other opportunities and licenses such as train conductor.

Most volunteers commit to one shift per week. While we encourage and prefer a weekly commitment, the minimum requirement to volunteer for most roles is one 5-hour shift per month for a year.

Volunteer to be a pet sitter or doggy hotel for when Reed’s Rescue foster parents have a vacation or need someone to watch their current foster pup! All supplies included. This position may be at your home or the foster home depending on preference and situation. Also, it may include a dog walk during the day if needed for a working potty break.

As a volunteer in the Mediation Unit, your primary responsibility will be mediating complaints involving a variety of consumer issues. You will be assigned your own cases and work with your supervisor to analyze the information, develop mediation strategies, and communicate with businesses, consumers, and other parties in an effort to reach a resolution to those complaints.

The complaints may include issues such as landlord/tenant disputes, auto repair and sales matters, or problems involving general retail sales. Your work will be directly supervised by a mediation supervisor. You may also be trained to answer our consumer hotline.

This is an in-person volunteer opportunity. The Office of the Attorney General requires a minimum time commitment of two days per week, five hours per day, and we require at least a six-month commitment with respect to volunteers.

Our main office is located in downtown Baltimore with access to Light Rail, Metro, bus, and MARC lines and we have a branch office in Prince George’s County. All work is done in person and we offer free parking in addition to a $20/day stipend. 

Feed your community by volunteering to pack meals with Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland! Serve homebound individuals and ensure they receive nutritious meals every day. Help your neighbor get the necessary groceries they need to remain aging in place. Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland needs volunteers to help with our Grocery Assistance program in Baltimore City and Baltimore County.

Volunteers are matched to a homebound individual and work closely with their client to schedule shopping trips, prepare grocery lists, and help put the groceries away. Volunteers do not take the client to the store, but they have a Meals on Wheels credit card and the client’s shopping list to shop on their behalf.

Each shopping trip averages 1 – 3 hours. The volunteer commitment for this program is at least nine months, and a strong sense of financial responsibility is required. Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland is looking for volunteers to deliver meals to homebound individuals in their community! Delivering meals to homebound neighbors ensures that our clients can remain aging in place. We are looking for volunteers to deliver meals to the residents of Randallstown, Essex, Dundalk, Towso, Cockeysville and the surrounding neighborhoods.

Volunteers pick up meals in Baltimore County and deliver to apartment buildings and private residences in the local neighborhoods. We deliver Monday through Friday, starting at 10:30 am and routes typically take an hour and a half to complete. Volunteers can help as much as every week or volunteer as they are available as a substitute delivery driver.
