Who We Are
Mission: To collect, preserve, and interpret historic objects.
The B&O Railroad Museum is home of the Birthplace of American Railroading and is comprised of buildings and collection items with deep historic significance both to the City of Baltimore and to the Nation. From the William Mason, the engine that carried Abraham Lincoln to his presidential inauguration, to the Mt. Clare Station, a National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Site, the Museum’s expansive collection educates, awes, and delights visitors from around the world.
Volunteers serve the Museum as docents, tour guides, educational programming support, large event support, exhibit support, landscaping and facilities support, rail operations conductors and maintenance support, and more.
What We Do
We hope to provide dynamic experiences that ignite, educate, and stir the imagination by preserving the history of American Railroading. We aim to demonstrate the contributions made by railroad developments in the building of our nation through innovative, world-class exhibitions, educational programs, and engaging activities.
The B&O Railroad Museum emphasizes the social stories and impact that Railroading has had on individuals and society throughout it’s nearly 200 year history.
