Disaster Action Teams provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring that those affected have access to resources for basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing.
Volunteer Responsibilities: As a DAT Responder, you will:
- Work as part of the Disaster Action Team to support the local disaster response efforts in Baltimore County;
- Train and prepare for the position, serving ‘on-call’ shifts each week (24 hours/month in 6 hour "on-call" shifts);
- Attend regularly scheduled team/DAT meetings, communicate regularly with the team;
- Respond to local disasters such as home fires, flooding or storm damage during your on-call shift;
- Deliver immediate direct client assistance, in-person;
- Working with ‘on-scene’ lead to determine if additional resources/support is required.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to treat people with respect under all circumstances and instill trust in others;
- Solid computer skills including use of internet search tools, video conferencing tools, intranet and Microsoft Office Suite;
- Be able to work under rapidly changing conditions and with ambiguity;
- Successfully clear a standard background check;
- Must have reliable transportation;
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
