Disaster Action Teams provide 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, particularly house fires, ensuring that those affected have access to resources for basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing. 

Volunteer Responsibilities:  As a DAT Responder, you will:

  • Work as part of the Disaster Action Team to support the local disaster response efforts in Baltimore County;
    • Train and prepare for the position, serving ‘on-call’ shifts each week (24 hours/month in 6 hour "on-call" shifts);
    • Attend regularly scheduled team/DAT meetings, communicate regularly with the team;
    • Respond to local disasters such as home fires, flooding or storm damage during your on-call shift;
    • Deliver immediate direct client assistance, in-person;
    • Working with ‘on-scene’ lead to determine if additional resources/support is required.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to treat people with respect under all circumstances and instill trust in others;
  • Solid computer skills including use of internet search tools, video conferencing tools, intranet and Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Be able to work under rapidly changing conditions and with ambiguity;
  • Successfully clear a standard background check;
  • Must have reliable transportation;
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Application Instructions:

1. Create a Red Cross ID.

2. Complete all steps of the application including authorizing a background check and reviewing wavier forms.

3. Respond to an email from the Volunteer Services team to set up a brief phone interview.
