Description

Are you someone who enjoys listening, offering guidance, and helping others take the next step forward? The Shelter Resident Transition (SRT) volunteer plays a key role during disaster relief operations by supporting shelter residents as they plan their path toward safe, stable housing after a disaster.

In this role, volunteers meet one-on-one with individuals and families staying in Red Cross shelters. You’ll help them understand what resources are available, identify any obstacles they may be facing, and work with them to create a simple, personalized plan for moving from the shelter to a more sustainable living situation.

Your support helps people regain a sense of control during one of the most difficult moments of their lives. By offering compassion, patience, and steady guidance, you make it possible for households to transition more quickly and confidently toward recovery.

This is a meaningful opportunity for volunteers who appreciate direct human connection, thoughtful problem-solving, and being part of a mission-driven team committed to alleviating suffering after disaster.
